Chocolate Coated Strawberries

Why pay for expensive and old chocolate-covered strawberries when you can easily make them yourself at home.  Use super fresh local strawberries for maximum flavor

Prep time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Coating time: 10 minutes
Cooling time: 30 minutes
Total time: 1 hour and 10 minutes

Ingredients

8 ounces high quality bittersweet chocolate, chopped

2 baskets of fresh local strawberries, rinsed and dried

Organic if possible

Directions

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

Microwave the chocolate, whisking often, until melted and smooth, 1 to 3 minutes.

Transfer the baking sheet to the refrigerator until the strawberries cool completely, at least 30 minutes.

Make it your own

Substitute dark or milk chocolate for the bittersweet chocolate

Substitute banana chucks, pineapple pieces or dried apricots  

Don't want to use a microwave

1.   Put the chocolates into a heatproof medium bowl.

2.   Fill a medium saucepan with a couple inches of water and bring to a simmer over medium heat.

3.   Turn off the heat; set the bowl of chocolate over the water to melt.

4.   Stir until smooth
