Marinara Sauce

This is an easy healthy nutrient-rich Marina sauce. This is a thick and luscious sauce that is loaded with antioxidants and minerals.  Add it to roasted veggies, pasta, or lasagna recipes.

Cooking time: 60 minutes

Ingredients

1 - 28 can organic Muir Glen crushed fire roasted tomatoes

2 tablespoons California olive oil

1 onion, chopped

3 garlic cloves, peeled and sliced

1 teaspoons oregano

1 tablespoon honey

Directions

  1. Melt the olive oil in a medium stock pot over medium heat.  

  2. Add onions and cook, stirring often, until the onions are translucent, about 10 minutes. 

  3. Add garlic and oregano and cook 2 minutes

  4. Add crushed tomatoes

  5. Bring to a simmer and cook at least 60 minutes 

  6. Add honey

  7. Transfer the mixture to a blender and puree or use an immersible blender.  

  8. Return to simmer

  9. Serve

Maker it your own

Add basil

1 tablespoon dried basil, step 3

Or add1 cup fresh basil, step 6

Add red pepper flakes to taste, start with a pinch, step 2

Use 2 pounds of coarsely chopped fresh tomatoes, step 4

For added complexity, velvety mouth feel, and flavor add ¼ cup California olive oil at step 7

Add any summer veggies coarsely chopped at step 3
